Crawlspace Dehumidifying

For years crawlspaces were built with foundation vents for air circulation. Today homes are more energy effecient and haivng vents in the foundation to circulate air is no longer necessary. Air normally circulates through the home and through the crawlspace. This is why from time to time you may notice a musty or damp smell in the air, because air is circulating up from your crawlspace into your home. In todays modern times, it's not effecient to circulate air from the house that has been heated or cooled through the crawlspace and back. This is why crawlspace vents are covered and dehumidifiers are installed. A dehumidifier keeps the moisture level down in the crawlspace so it stays dry and smell free.

  • Dehumidifying Options

There are seveal crawlspace dehumidifing systems available. These systems work just like a standard basement dehumidifier, but are capable of discharging water by themselves and are permanently mounted and vented to the outside. There are also air handling systems which operate a continuous fan system which constantly moves air through the crawlspace, but does not have a dehumidifing function. These systems are also mounted in the crawlspace and vented to the outside.

Did You Know?

Low spots, holes in the ground and tree roots near your foundation can contribute to your basement leakage problems. Make sure you have a good working gutter system on your home with extended downspouts.
